The government calls on women and children all across the country to get knitting for the boys and the war effort. Socks wore out fast and men needed to change them frequently if possible. Cold, wet feet were not only uncomfortable but could cause a host of problems if not addressed quickly.

Someone was commenting the other day on a knitting blog how even today it’s more the knitting community that dominates aid/ charity related stuff rather than the sewing one..
Ya, knitters are pretty awesome when it comes time to knit for a good cause. I run a sewing group and we do a sewing event about every quarter. There are a lot of things we can sew for those in need. Knitting is just so portable. Sewing events usually take a concentrated effort, planning, logistics and so forth. But still worth doing!
I love these old posters! Thanks for sharing!
I’m a big fan too. I love the WPA posters too. And, I’m a sucker for that national spirit that was so prevalent back then. Just a lot of pride in being an American and working together for a common goal.
Great poster! Although it brought out my inner 12 year old who wants to replace the O with an E. My bad.
Embarrassingly enough, that took me awhile. I’ve been looking at the screen too long.
