About Me

Hello!

My name is Jill and  I reside in Colorado.  I run the Denver Sewing Collective which is a awesome group of people who love sewing and promoting the art of sewing.

The blog title is inspired by Joan Didon’s A Year of Magical Thinking.  I think there is a magical effect when we think about the things we love, that inspire us, that can safely remove us from this insane world even if for the length of time it takes to read or visit a blog.

This blog has taken on many guises; I think I’ve changed the theme alone about 72 times or so.  It is not strictly a sewing blog.  I’m happy to say I rarely use the word ‘Sew’ in a homophonic way (sounds naughty doesn’t it).  I rarely have tutorials because so many bloggers out there do it soooo much better.  But, if I do find a tip or technique I will gladly share.  I like to post my latest creation and I enjoy writing book reviews on fashion, sewing, vintage, movies, costumes and whatever strikes my fancy.

I post on fashion but not in a “Look what I’m Wearing Today”. I try to give a little historical perspective. I post on vintage fashion as well as current.  I love old Hollywood and take frequent trips there via movies.

So, enough about me, what’s up with you?  Your lovely comments here and elsewhere are truly appreciated and I hope to grow my circle of blogging friends.

Jill

  1. A satin gown, or a velvet one, heck a good tweed on some days…. a dress in any great fabric can ease my heart!. Great Dorothy Parker quote and I’m glad to have found your blog.

  2. I was sorting through some of my old pamphlets this weekend and found a 1920s color chart for how to assemble an outfit, put out by a silk hosiery company. I thought you would get a kick out of it so took some pics – let me know if you want me to email them to you. I’m totally fine if you want to use them in a post. ;p

    • Oooh, that does sound interesting. I would love to see it. It would be interesting to view the color choices from so long ago. My email is jill.dsc@gmaildotcom.

And, good news from my neighborhood we got our first Egyptian restaurant! Cleopatra’s. I had appetizers there Saturday, so good. Not very busy, I hope they pick up.

      • I’ll send them in about 5 min – maybe check your spam folder since there are attachments. Yay to the restaurant, I’m sure it will pick up once word gets around. Dang, now I’m hungry!

    • Sure! Do you have the same model? I talked to 3 other women with same machine and they said they had the exact issue. I wish Pfaff had been more up front about it. I think it is a defect in the machine.

  3. Hello my friend! Great list. We must head out for sushi soon.

How about … Threading Gardenia’s or something … we should brainstorm at the next DSC.

    Ciao.
